Historically repurposed

Winner of the «best architects 22 award»

The rooms of the former medical history museum on the first floor of the building on Rämistrasse, which was erected in 1885 as the physics building of the University of Zurich, have been repurposed and converted into office and seminar space for the Digital Society Initiative, an interdisciplinary research group at the University of Zurich.

The new design concept aimed at restoring the original spatial quality of the building planned by Semper’s student Otto Weber.

RMB Engineering AG was commissioned with the following services:

  • BKP240 heating/BKP 250: Renewal of the district heating connection with hot water preparation in the basement
  • Reconstruction heat generation
  • BKP246 Refrigeration: Installation of a cooling system for the utility rooms
  • BKP 244 Ventilation: Installation of a ventilation system for the rooms of the DSI on the first floor in the listed rooms

The conversion of the listed building was carried out during ongoing operations.

We are happy to be part of this project, which by the way is one of the winners of the “best architects 22 award”!
